Center targets To Ensure Availability Of Clean Water by 200

The government has set a target of ensuring availability of clean water to 70 litres per day per person by 2022.

Minister of State for Drinking Water and Sanitation Ram Kirpal Yadav said, at present, the availability of water in the country on an average is 40 litres per person per day. Yadav said, the government has chalked out a plan to provide clean water to the people.

On the issue of reduction of budgetary allocation to his Ministry, Yadav said, as per the recommendation of the 14th Finance Commission, the Centre has enhanced the share of funds to the States from 32 to 42 per cent.

He said, the state governments can utilise the fund for the purpose of water supply and sanitation as per requirement.
