Center to create Central Compensation Fund for Acid attack victims

The Centre will soon create a Central Compensation Fund to offer financial assistance to acid attack victims in the country.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said this while speaking at a function organised on sustainable empowerment strategies for the acid victims in New Delhi.

Singh said that the compensation to be provided by it, will be in addition to the Compensation given by the States.

Singh said that his Ministry is exploring the ways to provide insurance cover to the Acid victims. He said, the government is holding discussion with the National Insurance Corporation for the purpose.

Singh also said that he has also written to all the States to set up investigating units on crime against women in districts.

The Home Minister said that the government is serious about the acid attack incidents and the existing act has been made more stringent to impose 10 years jail term to the culprits.
