Central Govt . To Bring Changes In “No Detention Policy “ In School Level : Smriti Irani

The Narendra Modi government is contemplating changes in the ‘no detention policy’ in schools which states that no child up to Class 8 shall be detained under any circumstances, the Rajya Sabha was informed Monday.

Responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, Union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani said that a sub-committee constituted on the issue by the Central Advisory Board on Education, has submitted its report and the government will take a decision based on its recommendations.

The Chief Ministers of several states, the Minister said, have expressed their reservations on the present policy, raising concerns about the quality of students of ninth standard, promoted till class eighth despite poor performances.

The Members pointed out to the poor facilities available in the schools. How can the quality of education be ensured in the absence of basic facilities like water, electricity, toilets, they questioned.
