Centre To Set Up Two National Centers of Aging In New Delhi , Chennai : Health Minister JP Nadda

The Centre will set up two National Centres of Ageing to provide preventive and curative services to the people suffering from geriatric disease.

Health Minister J P Nadda said in the Lok Sabha that the two centres will come up at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi and Madras Medical College in Chennai.

He was replying to a debate on the Senior Citizens ( Provisions of Geriatric and Dementia Care) Bill, 2014, a Private member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha today.

The Minister said, twenty Regional Centres are being set up in Medical Colleges to provide care to the elderly people. Nadda also said, under the National Programme for Health Care of Elderly, the government has proposed setting up of Geriatric Care Units in another 221 District Hospitals in the remaining period of 12th plan.

On the dementia, Nadda said that the government has formulated a National Mental Health Policy to provide medical care to people suffering from neurological disorders. Later, the Bill which was moved by the BJD leader Bhartruhari Mahtab was withdrawn.
