China Is Keen To Make Progress On Boundary Issue With India During Modi’s Visit : Hua Chunying

China Thursday expressed its keenness to make progress on the boundary issue with India during Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit to the country next week.

”The boundary question is an issue of common interest. So I believe that this issue would be covered in their talks. We look forward to enhancing the communication with the Indian side to strive for more progress in the relevant issue,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a media briefing here.

India and China had recently held 18th round of special representatives talks on the boundary issue, the first after the coming into power of the Modi government.

However, except for some outlines, not much was disclosed as to what transpired during the meeting. Asked what progress had been made in the resolution of bilateral issues after Mr Xis visit to India, the spokesperson said, ”The two sides have maintained the peace and tranquillity of the border area and positive outcomes have been achieved in economy trade as well as on some other issues. So we are looking forward to Prime Minister Modis visit to China and hope to make more efforts to push forward bilateral relations.”

Modi, who on Monday joined the Chinese social media site ahead of his visit said in a posting that he was certain that his three-day visit to China from May 14 would strengthen stability, progress and prosperity in Asia.The visit is in return of President Xi Jinpings visit to India last year
