Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee Raj Kumar’s Family Donates Rs.10 Lakh Donate To Quake-Hit Nepal For Rehabilitation

Dadasaheb Phalke Awardee late Rajkumar family Thursday donated Rs 10 lakhs to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund forutilisation for rehabilitation of those affected in the recent earthquake devastation in Himalayan country Nepal in which more than 7000people were killed and lakhs of people rendered houseless.

Rajkumar’s sons Shivraj Kumar and Raghavendra Rajkumar handed over a cheque to the amount to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his official residence ‘Cauvery’ here.

rinamool Congress today said livelihood of more than 50,000 jute mill workers has been affected in West Bengal as jute mills halted production due to inadequate orders from the government departments.Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Saugata Roy of AITC said jute mills were getting closed in a systematic and rapid manner across the state as they are facing severe financial constraints due to lack of orders.He said West Bengal has a total workforce of 2.5 lakh who are dependent on the jute mills for the earnings.Former Railway Minister and Member from Barrackpore, Dinesh Trivedi also supported the issue and demanded an immediate intervention from the government to solve the jute workers’ woes.There are around 59 jute mills in West Bengal, employing close to 400,000 people and almost all of them are currently making losses because of market conditions and rising prices of raw jute. The government had made it mandatory under a 1987 law to use jute as packaging material for various commodities but the provisions were diluted in later years to allow greater use of plastics.
