Gallle Test : India close to victory as Sri Lanka 84/4 at stumps in second innings

In Men’s Cricket, Hosts Sri Lanka were 84 for 4 in their second innings against India at stumps on the fourth day of the first Test in Galle. Sonal Dinusha and Dhananjaya de Silva remained at the crease when stumps were drawn this evening.

For India, Manav Suthar took two wickets. Earlier in the day, India were bowled out for 193 in their second innings, setting Sri Lanka a target of 372 runs. Rishabh Pant top scored with 66 runs off 69 deliveries, including two sixes and eight fours. He also became the first Indian player and only the fourth in the world to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket. Pant reached the milestone in just his 51st Test, becoming the fastest player to complete 100 sixes in the format. For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando claimed four wickets, while Prabath Jayasuriya picked up two.

On the previous day, Indian bowlers bowled Sri Lanka out for 284 in their first innings. Manav Suthar was the pick of the Indian attack, claiming four wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja took three. For Sri Lanka, Sonal Dinusha scored his maiden Test century, while Niroshan Dickwella contributed 80 runs.

India were dismissed for 462 in their first innings. Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with 167, while KL Rahul made 82 and Dhruv Jurel scored 51. For Sri Lanka, Prabath Jayasuriya took four wickets, Keshara Nuwantha claimed three, and Asitha Fernando picked up two.

The second and final Test of the series will be played in Colombo from the 23rd of this month.
