Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has said that 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, will continue to be observed as a holiday in the state.

His clarification came after a controversy erupted over the scrapping of Gandhi Jayanti from the list of public holidays by the Goa Government.

Parsekar said it could be an act of mischief or a typing mistake. The controversy had triggered strong reaction from the Congress which termed it a disturbing act.
