Government Releases Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for Public Consultation

New Delhi, July 20
The Ministry of Law and Justice has released the Draft Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2026 for stakeholder and public consultation. The draft has been prepared in consultation with the Bar Council of India and has been placed on the Bar Council’s official website to invite comments and suggestions.

The Ministry said that all stakeholders, including members of the public, can submit their comments and suggestions on the draft Bill to the Bar Council of India and the Department of Legal Affairs by 31st of July, till 3 PM.

It said the feedback received during the consultation process will be examined. The Ministry added that the consultative exercise reflects the Government’s commitment to a transparent, participative and inclusive law-making process in line with the evolving needs of the legal profession.
