Govt derecognises IOA on issue of nominating Kalmadi, Chautala as life presidents

Government has de-recognised the Indian Olympic Association on the issue of nominating Suresh Kalmadi and Abhay Chautala as its life presidents.

In a tweet, Sports Minister Vijay Goel said the Ministry has suspended the deemed recognition of IOA until the association reverses its decision. Kalmadi was jailed in connection with the CWG scam while Chautala is facing charges in disproportionate assets case.

Earlier, the IOA was given time till today to reply the show-cause notice issued by the Ministry threatening de-recognition if it does not reverse its decision. On 27th of this month, Kalmadi and Chautala were elevated to the honorary position at the IOA’s Annual General Meeting in Chennai.
