Govt. Of India To Set Up Rs.1500 Cr. Neutrino Observatory Project In Theni District Of TN

The Governmetn of India has approved the India-based Neutrino Observatory Project, INO, to be located in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu. It will be set up at a cost of more than Rs 1,500 crore.

The Project is meant to study neutrino, a fundamental particle of nuclear physics. Detailed studies on the environmental impact of the project were carried out by the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History, Coimbatore, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Environment and Forests.

Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh said in Rajya Sabha today that the Geological Survey of India has carried out geo-technical studies.
