Govt. Offices All Set To Function In Srinagar Shifting From Winter Capital Jammu Tuesday

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have made all necessary arrangements, including security, to ensure smooth functioning of all government offices set to start functioning in Srinagar from tomorrow for the next six months after shifting from winter capital Jammu. The Raj Bhavan, Civil Secretariat and other offices closed in Jammu on April 24, are scheduled to re-open in Srinagar as per the ‘Darbar Move’.

This is over 150 year old Dogra rule bi-annual practice under which the government functions six months each in the two capitals. Adequate security arrangements have been made for re-opening of Civil Secretariat and other Darbar Move offices in the summer capital. Security sources said, law and order situation in the Valley is fully under control and police and other security agencies have taken all measures to ensure that peaceful atmosphere prevails.

The summer capital has been given a face lift ahead of the re-opening of the offices. Every year, the city gets a face-lift on the eve of re-opening of Durbar move offices. Besides, the government offices and quarters have been renovated and the street lights restored.

As a mark of protest over the government’s failure to rehabilitate flood-hit traders, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation have called for Valley-wide strike tomorrow and peaceful sit-in at Budshah Chowk in Lal Chowk Srinagar, coinciding with the re-opening of ‘Darbar Move’ offices in the summer capital. The amalgam alleges that even after eight months, the State Govt has failed to compensate the losses suffered by thousands of traders losing livelihood in last year’s floods.

The Traders Body puts the unprecedented losses suffered by business community in twenty districts to the tune of Rs 30,000 crores affecting over 65,000 business establishments out of which 14,000 establishment stand wiped out.
