Gujarat Assembly Passes Gujarat Control Of Terrorist And Organised Crime Bill -2015
31 March, Gandhinagar
The Gujarat Assembly Tuesday passed Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organized Crime Bill 2015. The controversial Bill was introduced by the Government in the State assembly today.
The bill was earlier returned by two Presidents to the state government for reconsideration. The legislation is a modified version of the original 2003 Gujarat Control of Organized Crime Bill which was not cleared by the earlier NDA and UPA governments.
The bill aims to empower the law enforcing authorities to intercept and record phone calls as evidence. The bill also puts the onus of proving the innocence on an accused. Opposition Congress walked out of the Assembly opposing the passage of the bill.
