Gujarat, retired IPS officer D.G. Vanzara has been released today from Sabarmati central jail in Ahmedabad after more than 7 years of imprisonment.
Vanzara was arrested on 24th April 2007 and in jail since then in connection with fake encounter cases of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and Ishrat Jahan. He was recently granted bail by Mumbai CBI Court and Ahmedabad CBI court in two encounter cases.
Though Vanzara got bail in Ishrat encounter case on 5th February, he was not released as the bail order from Mumbai Court in Sohrabuddin encounter case was not received.
Vanzara was granted bail in Sohrabuddin encounter case in September 2014 by the Mumbai CBI court. Large number of his supporters including family members and friends had gathered outside the Sabarmati jail to receive Vanzara.
He is likely to proceed for Mumbai as his entry in Gujarat is prohibited under the conditions of bail.
