India Dismisses US Report On Religious Freedom

India has declined to take cognizance of the annual report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, USCIRF .

The Commission, which is an independent US federal government advisory body, passed a judgement on religious freedom in India.

Responding to a media query on the report, the External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said, it appears that the report is based on limited understanding of India, its Constitution and the society.

The USCIRF in its report released yesterda placed India in tier-2 list of ten countries whose governments engage in or tolerate serious violations. The other countries in the list are Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Malaysia, Russia and Turkey.
