India pitches for implementing Nepal’s Constitution by accommodating aspirations of all sections

India today pitched for implementing Nepal’s Constitution by accommodating aspirations of all sections and assured it of all possible support.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an extensive and productive dialogue with his Nepalese counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda in New Delhi.

Thereafter the two sides inked three pacts including one on India extending project management consultancy services for upgradation and improvement of road infrastructure in Terai region of Nepal.

India also gave 750 million dollar line of credit for post earthquake reconstruction of the Himalayan nation. The two countries also decided to continue cooperation in areas of defence and security.

In a statement after the delegation level talks, Modi said that as immediate neighbours and close friendly nations, peace, stability and economic prosperity of Nepal is India’s shared objective.

He said both sides agreed to push for speedy and successful implementation of ongoing hydropower projects and operationalization of transmission lines. He said, the two leaders agreed to showcase shared Buddhist heritage and focus on the development of Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine.

Prime Minister Modi said, trade, connectivity, development projects and mutual investement are key pillars of India’s partnership with Nepal.

On his part, the Nepalese Prime Minister said his country has nothing but goodwill for India and that destinies of both the countries are interlinked.

He said his government is deeply committed to friendly relations with its neighbours and Indo-Nepal partnership is crucial to unlock the huge potential of bilateral relationship. About the political transformation in Nepal, Prachanda said his government is making sincere efforts in taking every section of the society on board while implementing the provisions of the Constitution.

Later, talking to media Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar described the outcome of the meeting as very productive in terms of conversation and engagements. He said both leaders recognized uniqueness of Indo- Nepal relationship which is based on history, geography, culture and open boundary. He said the future of the two countries is tied together in many ways.

The visiting Prime Minister also called on President Pranab Mukherjee besides meeting with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Power Minister Piyush Goyal. Tomorrow, he will meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh. He will also visit Nathpa Jhakhri hydro power project in Himachal Pradesh..
