India To Launch Inactivate Polio Vaccine With Oral Drops BY End Of 2015

India is launching Inactivated Polio Vaccine, IPV, as an additional dose to be given at 14 weeks of age with Oral Polio Drops near the end of this year.

This injectible vaccine is a part of Polio Endgame Strategy of the World Health Organisation and is based on recommendations by National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization.

Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda told Rajya Sabha today that the Oral Vaccine will be globally withdrawn from mid-2016 from the programme in a phased manner.

India has already been certified polio-free country by WHO in March 2014.
