Indian eves crash out of World T20 after defeat to Windies

Indian women cricket team’s hopes of staying in contention at the World Twenty20 were crushed after suffering a narrow three-run defeat to West Indies in their last league game in Mohali on Sunday.

Put in to bat first, West Indies posted 114 for eight in their stipulated 20 overs, thanks to Stafanie Taylor (47) and Deandra Dottin (45).

In reply, India kept on losing wickets at regular junctures and could manage only 111 for nine in their allotted overs. This was their third defeat in a row.

Although Jhulan Goswami kept the hosts hopes alive with a few lusty blows, her run-out in the penultimate over swung the pendulum towards West Indies’ way.

With the win, West Indies have put one foot in the door to the semi-finals and now await the result of the England-Pakistan clash in Chennai.
