Industrialist Mahima Mishra sent to jail in SSPL Gen Manager murder case

Noted Industrialist and Odisha Stevedores Limited (OSL) Managing Director Mahimananda Mishra and company Executive Director Basant Kumar Bal, accused in the murder of Seaways Shipping and Logistics Private Limited (SSPL) General Manager Mahendra Swain, were Tuesday sent to jail by the Kujang JMFC court.

Both Mishra and Bal were brought to Bhubaneswar last night via Kolkata from Bangkok where they were detained by the immigration police and later taken to Paradip by a six-member team of the Jagatsinghpur police.

The Bangkok Immigration Centre detained them after they were arrested by the Thai immigration police from a luxury hotel in Parthum area on the advice of Odisha police which had issued a lookout notice against them and sought the assistance of Interpol to nab them.

The court had also issued a NBW against them in connection with the murder.
The police today approached the court for their five days remand for interrogation in connection with the murder case.

Both Mishra and Bal filed bail petitions in the court.
The JMFC court, however, rejected their bail petitions and allowed the police to take them on four days remand.

Police said the OSL MD and executive director against whom the police had issued a lookout notice managed to escape to Nepal and later went to Bangkok through tourist visa where they were finally nabbed.

The OSL chief had earlier moved the Odisha High Court seeking anticipatory bail and challenged the lookout circular issued against him but the court denied any interim protection to him.

SSPL General Manager Mahendra Swain was shot dead on October 26 near Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip.

The police later arrested seven persons, including prime accused Rakesh Choubey, who according to police had received Rs 12 lakh in cash in advance from OSL in September 2016 to execute the murder of Swain.
