Intensity of Maoist violence come down in Odisha significantly: Naveen

The intensity of Maoist violence in Odisha has significantly come down during the last two years with the neutralization of 48 Maoists including state committee members and arrest of 88 left wing extremist members besides surrendered of 95 red rebels,Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told the state Assembly Thursday.

Replying to the debate on the discussion on the demand for Home and General Administration, Patnaik claimed, a large number of pro – Maoist militias and sympathizers have publicly announced withdrawal of their support from the Maoists in Malkangiri district.

The chief minister said the withdrawal of support from the Maoists by the sympathizers is a very encouraging development and claimed that the . attempts by Maoists to intensify their activities in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh and Nayagarh districts have been contained due to pro-active police action.

He said the overall law and order situation in the State has remained by and large peaceful. There was no significant law and order incident on the students, services, industrial, labour and agrarian fronts and no major communal incident also reported in the state.

On the crime against women, the state government, he said has created several institutional mechanisms like Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking Units, Investigation Units for Crime against Women and Mahila and Sishu Desks with commensurate manpower. All women related heinous crimes are regularly monitored and Special Public Prosecutors are engaged.BM
