It’s business as usual in Chennai, security tightened in TN

An uneasy calm prevails in Tamil Nadu in view of the growing concerns about the health of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who is in a critical condition after suffering a heart attack last evening, though normal life remain unaffected in the city and security has been tightened at the offices of political parties, including the principal opposition DMK

It’s business as usual in Chennai as the normal life was not affected. Though reports said that bus services were stopped last night in some places in view of the health condition of the Chief Minister, the public transport, including bus and autorickshaws started plying. as usual this morning.

Shopkeepers, who had downed their shutters fearing law and orderconcerns last night, also opened as usual. All state and central government offices, buses and commercial establishments functioned as usual, though security has been tightenedacross the state. Most of the schools and colleges remained open in the city, thougha couple of private schools declared a holiday.

Meanwhile, nine companies of Rapid Action Force (RAF) of CRPF (each company has 100 personnel) have been put on stand-by to be immediately airlifted from various places in the country to Tamil Nadu, if needed, senior CRPF officials said. Police have also enhanced security to the offices of some political parties, including the DMK.
