Jaya Urges Rajnath To Depute Central Team To Assess Flood Damage

Even as the Tamil Nadu Government was assessing the damages caused by the recent floods,Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa Thursday spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and urged him to depute a Central team immediately to make an on the spot assessment of the damages caused by the flood fury.
An official release said Ms Jayalalithaa apprised the Union Home Minister of the current situation in Tamil Nadu due to the unprecedented rains and floods, particularly in the districts of Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Cuddalore.
The Chief Minister detailed the precautionary measures taken by the State Government and also the extensive, immediate relief and rescue efforts launched by her government.
She told Rajnath Singh that the assessment of flood damages was being currently undertaken across the State and the Tamil Nadu government would submit a detailed memorandum to the Centre by November 23 seeking assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund and other Central Government funding.
The release said ”the Chief Minister also requested the Union Home Minister to speedily depute the Central Government team to Tamil Nadu to make their on the spot assessment and recommend release of Central Assistance without delay”.
The Union Home Minister assured Ms Jayalalithaa that the Central Team would be sent to Tamil Nadu immediately on receipt of Memorandum from the State Government, the release said.
The Chief Minister also outlined the manner in which the State Government agencies engaged in relief and rescue efforts, co-ordinating effectively with the Central Government agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army, Air Force, Navy and the Coast Guard.
Thanking the Union Home Minister for the assistance rendered by the Central agencies, Ms Jayalalithaa said the assessment of flood damages was being currently undertaken across the State and the State Government would submit its detailed Memorandum seeking assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund and other Central Government funding by November 23.
