Kejriwal Seeks Explanation From Law Minister Tomar on Alleged Fake Degree

29 April, New Delhi

After allegations that AAP leader and Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar’s degree obtained from a Bihar university is fake, AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Tuesday sought an explanation the party leader on the matter, sources said .

Though an official spokesperson of the Delhi government refused to say anything on the issue, sources said the Delhi Chief Minister has sought an explanation from Tomar on the allegations that have led the opposition Congress and the BJP to demand a sacking of the minister.

Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University in Bihar Monday submitted an affidavit in the Delhi High Court stating that Tomar’s provisional certificate is fabricated and does not exist in the institution’s record.

Kejriwal seeking an explanation from Tomar came even as the Minister defended his degree, calling it genuine.”My law degree is 100 per cent genuine. I am not going to resign,” Tomar said, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture and Home in the Delhi Government.

Tomar said all his degrees and certificates were genuine and university records were tampered with. He said the allegations against him was a political conspiracy aimed at hurting the Aam Aadmi Party.”When all the records will be placed before the court everything will be clear.

The petition filed in the court is politically motivated as BJP has not been able to digest its defeat,” he said.
