Kerala Assembly Suspends Five Opposition LDF MLAs For Unruly Behaviour

Kerala Legislative Assembly Monday suspended five Left Democratic Front MLAs for unruly behaviour on the 13th of this month, the day on which State budget was presented.

Amidst protests from Opposition Left Front, the resolution moved by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was passed by the House. The MLAs have been suspended till the end of the current Assembly session.

Moving the resolution,Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the happenings in the Assembly, brought disrepute to the State Legislature, which has the tradition of passing several landmark legislations.

Speaker N Sakthan said the untoward incidents were a blot on democracy. However, leader of Opposition V S Achuthanandan termed the Legislature’s decision to suspend five MLAs as unilateral.

He said the Opposition had warned that they will oppose Finance Minister K M Mani presenting the budget, as he was facing allegations of corruption on the bar bribery case.
