L C Goyal has taken charge as the India’s new Home Secretary Thursday .
After taking over, Goyal met Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
His term will be for a period of two years from the date of taking over the charge. He is a 1979 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer. He is currently holding the charge of Secretary in the Ministry of Rural Development
Government of India appointed LC Goyal as new Home Secretary replacing Anil Goswami who resigned following a controversy over arrest of former Union Minister involved in Saradha chit fund scam.
Goyal’s appointment had been approved by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday.
Goswami was virtually removed from his post for his alleged misuse of office five months ahead of the end of his two-year tenure. He was to retire in July next.
There are reports that on Wednesday, Goswami was summoned by the Prime Minister’s office on the issue. Before that, during a meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh, he reportedly admitted that he called the CBI from acting against Matang Sinh who was arrested in the scam last week. Goswami, then, sought voluntary retirement from the service which has been accepted by the Government.
