Malda Violence: BJP Says Mamta Shielding Culprits; Urges Prez To Intervene

A BJP delegation Saturday met President Pranab Mukherjee over Malda violence and sought his intervention over deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal.
A five-member team led by BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya met the President this afternoon and handed over a memorandum on Malda violence and urged him to sought a detailed report from Governor of West Bengal Keshari Nath Tripathi on the issue.
The BJP delegation also raised Birbhum incident, in which a police station was torched two days ago by a mob, and mowing down of IAF corporal allegedly by Trinamool leader’s son car. After meeting Mr Mukherjee, Mr Vijayvargiya lashed out at Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly shielding perpetrators of all three incidents due to ‘political compulsions’. ”If you see, minority community is related to these incidents.The Chief Minister is not acting against them due to political reasons,” the BJP leader alleged.
Terming Malda violence ‘a matter related to internal security of the country’, the BJP leader reiterated that drug and fake currency traffickers were leading a mob of more than lakh people, who later went to rampage in Malda district. ”The motive of Malda violence was to destroy police records related to drugs and counterfeit currency rackets. Unfortunately, Ms Banerjee is protecting culprits,” Vijayvargiya said.
On January 12, a delegation had met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh urging the Centre to urgently intervene into the matter.On the other hand, Ms Banerjee had said Malda incident was not a communal incident but a petty clash between locals and BSF personnel.
