West Bengal Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider a debt waiver for the state immediately.

In a letter to Modi, Ms Banerjee said that the state needs immediate relief from its debt burden so that growth and development efforts continue unhindered.

She also sought an appointment to meet the Prime Minister along with a delegation of her party members of Parliament to discuss the issue.

Disclosing this in a face book post last night, Ms Banerjee said the state is pursuing with the Central government the waiver of huge debt burden left behind by previous government in West Bengal.

She said, even after waiting for more than three and half years, no results on the issue has come.
This is for the first time that Ms Banerjee has sought an appointment to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
