Meghwal to share India’s experience of devolution at intl meet in Nairobi

Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal will share with other countries India’s experience of devolution of powers to local bodies at an international conference beginning in Nairobi Monday.
Meghwal, who has already reached the Kenyan capital to take part in the 4th Annual Devolution Conference, will specifically highlight the changes brought in by the 73rd-74th Constitutional Amendments to strengthen the local governance.
He will brief the Conference on the revenue sharing between the Centre and the States as well as showcase the smooth devolution on the recommendations of 14th Finance Commission from the earlier 32 per cent share in 13th Finance Commission to 42 per cent of Union’s net tax receipts, to the states, the Finance Ministry said in a release here.
The objective of the Conference also includes sharing of good experience of devolution system and how it can be used to increase good governance and public accountability for the social and economic development internationally.
The international conference is seeing the participation of around ten thousand delegates from different regions including African Nations and China.
Members of Parliament, leaders of Opposition from all states, professionals, representative of various civil societies, religious and social organisations from Kenya will also take part in the conference.
