Modi Trying To Strike At Rights Of Workers, Weakening Labour Laws: Rahul

Accusing the Narendra Modi government at the Centre of being anti-labour, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today alleged that the former was trying to strike at the rights of workers through weakening of labour laws in the country.

Delivering the inaugural address at the 31st Plenary Session of Indian National Trade Union Congress here, Gandhi, while saying that he welcomes the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making India a global manufacturing hub, charged him with weakening the labour laws and striking at the basic rights of the farmers.

”The Prime Minister thinks that there is need to weaken labour laws and that the labourers need to be disciplined so that they are forced to work.

”If you look at the labour laws being framed in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana it is clear that Modi has begun to strike at the right of the labourers. He feels that by putting in force a hire and fire policy, labourers will start working, Gandhi said at the function, where former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present.He said till the workers were apprehensive about their job security, productivity in the country could not be increased.
