12 March, Kohima

Nagaland Chief Minister T R Zeliang today condoled death of the mother of Odisha Governor and former Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir.

In a condolence message to Jamir, Zeliang said “I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Takatula this morning at Dimapur. Daughter of Head Dobashi Likokyangba, Takatula’s marriage with Senayangba was propitious, considering the fact that Senayangba’s grandfather Jongshinokdang, was the person who invited Rev E W Clark to Ungma village, thereby playing a historic role in propagating Christianity in these parts of the world.”

Zeliang in his message said “ever since I entered into public life, I have always seen her as a grand old lady, who never seemed to suffer from any physical ailment, despite her age.

“Hers was a saintly life and all those who met her or knew her, spoke highly of her Christian values. She was one of the few Nagas, who celebrated her centenary two years ago with her children and host of grand and great grandchildren. “She was also one of the last of the early Naga Christians, who, unlike modern day Christians, who are more obsessed with materialism and wealth, lived in righteousness and showed love, compassion and kindness towards all human beings.”

Zeliang, on behalf of the people of Nagaland, joined Mr Jamir in this hour of grief.

He prayed to the Almighty to grant all his family members solace and comfort in this hour of sorrow and wished that her departed soul rest in eternal peace.
