Najeeb Jung resigns as Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung has resigned from his post, according to an official release, which said that Mr Jung has submitted his resignation to the Centre.

His resignation came in the backdrop of his continuous power tussle with Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi.

Jung thanked the people of national capital for their support and affection, especially during the one year’s President Rule in the city. He also thanked Chief Minister Arvind Kjriwal for his association in the last two years as well as to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The resignation of Najeeb Jung is being seen as a sudden move and has surprised everyone. Mr. Jung, who was appointed as LG during UPA rule, will be returning back to academics. His OSD Ajay Chaudhary has said that Jung wanted to spend time with his family and his resignation is due to personal reasons.

A 1973-batch IAS officer, Jung had assumed charge as Lt Governor of Delhi in July 2013, five months before the Delhi Assembly elections.

His nearly three-and-half- year-long regime mostly witnessed bitter confrontation with AAP government on a range of issues related to power sharing.
