National security requires close cooperation between scientific institutions and armed forces, says President Murmu
New Delhi,October 13
President Droupadi Murmu said that today national security extends beyond military capabilities and it requires close cooperation between scientific institutions and the armed forces to translate innovation into practical solutions. She said this during interaction with the faculty and course members of the 66th National Defence College Course at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the security and technological landscapes are changing rapidly, bringing new and complex challenges.
President Murmu noted that these developments call for greater preparedness, strategic foresight and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. She added that the fast decision-making mechanism is also becoming more important because the techniques of modern warfare have expanded into cyber security, space technology, and biotechnology apart from the traditional domains.
Further, President Murmu said that recent conflicts have highlighted the importance of cost-effective technologies that complement advanced defence systems and make the best use of available resources. She also underlined the importance of government initiatives such as the Research, Development and Innovation Scheme, for strengthening the link between innovation and national security.
The President said that the use of Artificial Intelligence in various domains of science, national security and economic activities is increasing. She said that decision making cannot be outsourced exclusively to this technology and emphasised the need for a balanced approach.
The President also underlined that economic resilience is an integral part of the national security framework. She said that the Indian economy has demonstrated its capabilities to absorb disruptions created by external factors. The President highlighted that India has accomplished this without compromising the strategic freedom of action.
