Naveen seeks intervention of Dattatreya for ESIC hospital in Bhuabneswar

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today sought an early intervention of Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya on the construction of a 500 bed Super specialty hospital by the ESIC in Bhubaneswar.

In a letter to the Union Minister, Patnaik said the Employees State Insurance Corporation, Ministry of Labour and Employment had earlier decided to set up a Medical College and Hospital at Jagannath Prasad, Bhubaneswar.Accordingly, 25 acres of land was alienated by Odisha government in 2009.

The construction of boundary wall over the allotted land has been completed at a cost of Rs 13.97 crore. The foundation stone for ESI Medical College and Hospital was laid on March 2, 2014.Subsequently, the Medical College and Hospital project has been deferred by the Central Government and a decision has been taken to set up a Super Specialty Hospital as communicated by ESI Corporation.

Patnaik said Odisha is on way to rapid growth of Industries and the Service Sector. There are 3,78,270 Insured Persons under the ESI Scheme in the State and this figure is likely to exceed 8 lakhs with the proposal to extend coverage of ESI to the entire State.

The Chief Minister said considering this, the implementation of the proposal relating to the establishment of 500 bedded Super Specialty Hospital is necessary to provide tertiary health care to 32 lakh beneficiaries in the state and assured the Union Minister all cooperation from the State Government for completion of the project.X
