NHRC To Send Fact Finding Team To Look Into Seshachalam Encounter Killing, Favours Judical Probe

The National Human Rights Commission has decided today to send a fact finding team to Seshachalam Forest area in Chittoor to look into the encounter of 20 woodcutters from Tamil Nadu.

The NHRC also favoured a judicial inquiry by Andhra Pradesh Government into the Chittoor police firing incident.

The full Commission headed by Justice K G Balakrishnan decided this after the public hearing in Hyderabad over a bunch of petitions alleging that the police killed 20 woodcutters.

The Commission also directed the Andhra Pradesh government to conduct inquiry into the incident. The commission also asked the state government to submit a detailed report and medico legal certificates.
The Commission, after hearing the submissions made by the civil society and state government representatives on the incident at Hyderabad, directed the government that mobile numbers of all the officials involved in the police action be submitted to it.

NHRC Chairperson K G Balakrishnan said during the hearing that the state government has been asked to furnish details of wireless communication relating to the incident, and also submit medical reports regarding injuries sustained by police personnel in the incident.
