No High School in 59 GPs In Odisha , Govt To Open 215 New Schools In Five Years

Admitting that there was no High Schools in 59 Gram Panchyats in Odisha,the State School and Mass EducationMinister Debi Prasad Mishra said that as many as 215 new high schools would be opened during the next five years.

During question hour , School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra told the state Assembly Thursday that the decision of opening new schools was taken at a meeting by the Project Approval Committee.

Mishra said the Odisha government has given top priority to education and wanted to open at least one HighSchool in each Gram Panchayat particularly in in critical and vulnerable areas where there was no High schools.

He admitted that there was no High Schools in 59 Gram Panchayats of the state now.

The government, the Minister said expected to get aroundRs 150 crore assistance from the central government for the setting up of model schools but the Union government has allocated only Rs one crore for the entire country for the purpose.

The Minister said a decision has been taken to upgrade the Upper Primary and Middle English Schools to High Schools and so far 1087 schools had already been upgraded.

Mishra said the government tried to fill up the vacancies of teaching and non-teaching staff by recruiting5634 teachers and 1568 non teaching staff but it could not be finalised due to a stay on the recruitment process by the Tribunal.
