No Interference In Functioning Of IITs , Central Universities : HRD Minister Smriti Irani

The Union Government Monday denied any kind of interference in the functioning of IITs and Central Universities.

Rejecting opposition’s allegations, Human Resource Development Minister Smrit Irani said in the Lok Sabha that government is taking decisions as per constitutional mandate about educational institutes.

She was replying to a debate on Demands for Grants for Ministry of Human Resource Development in the House. On the scrapping of Four Year Degree Programme in Delhi University, the Minister said, the programme was introduced during the UPA regime which was against the legal provisions.

She also put to rest the doubts raised that her ministry is trying to saffronise the education and history.Highlighting the initiatives taken by her Ministry, the Minister said, that a programme called Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds (SWAYAM) will be launched soon.

She said, it will be a web portal where Massive Open On-line Courses will be available on all kinds of subjects.She said, 500 centres will be set up across the country where all Central Universities will impart free education. She also said, that the government has asked the NCERT to develop a mobile application to provide all important books online.

Later the House approved the Demands for Grants for the Ministry.
