No Relief To Pre-2009 Norms Ph.D Holders In Lecturer Appointment : UGC

University Grants Commission(UGC) Chairman Ved Prakash Monday firmly ruled out any relief to those who secured Ph.D before 2009 in appointment of lecturers in various universities in the state.

” Under no circumstances, any relief would be given to those who were awarded Ph.D before the UGC changed the norms and made it compulsory that candidature of only those Ph.D holders would be entertained who had secured the degree after the norms were enforced in 2009″ Mr Prakash said while interacting with the vice-chancellors of state runUniversities at Raj Bhavan.

” Any one who was awarded Ph.D prior to UGC norms came into effect in 2009 would have to qualify National Elegibility Test(NET) being conducted twice a year, across the country to test the efficiency of lecturer aspirants”, Mr Prakash said adding that apex court of the country had also given its ruling to this effect.

The UGC chairman, appeared annoyed when some VCs tried to push the case of pre-2009 norms Ph.D holders, saying quality must not be compromised in higher education. If those who got Ph.D prior to enforcement of 2009 norms, were efficient enough, they could also qualify the NET, he said adding that such candidates could make as many attempts to clear the test, to be considered for appointment of teachers.

As it is, a large number of Ph.D holders have been agitating since long for permission to appear in interview being conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission(BPSC) for appointment of lecturers in colleges of various universities in the state.
