Odisha Assembly Adjourned Sine Die In Mid-Way

Odisha Assembly Speaker Niranjan Pujari Wednesday adjourned the winter session of the Assembly sine die Mid-way.
The winter session, which began on December 1, was originally scheduled to continue till December 26.
But, the Speaker adjourned the House after a motion moved by government Chief Whip Ananta Das to reduce the sitting days of the current session by eight days was passed by a voice vote.
Earlier, BJD members- Pramilla Mallik, Amar Satpathy, Pravat Tripathy and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh said since the Opposition members were not attending the House since day before yesterday, it would not be fair to continue the proceedings of the House any more and urged the Speaker to adjourn the House sine die.
Mr Arukh requested the Speaker to allow the government Chief whip to move a motion to adjourn the House.
Both the opposition Congress and BJP staged walkout day before yesterday in protest against the suspension of Congress MLA Naba Kishore Das from the House for seven days, without giving a chance to the member to express his views.
During the current session, the House discussed farmers suicide cases, drought situation and alleged irregularirties in distribution of digitised ration cards in the state and passed as many as five bills.
