Odisha Assembly faces adjournment after uproar over Mahanadi water issue
21 September, Bhubaneswar
The Monsoon Session of the Odisha Assembly began with uproarious scenes as the Biju Janata Dal legislators created ruckus forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House till 3 PM.
As the House met for the session, the ruling party members shouted slogans against the Centre and Chhattisgarh government over the Mahanadi water issue which forced the Speaker to adjourn the House.
Following the adjournment, the BJD MLAs staged a protest march from the Assembly to Raj Bhavan to meet Governor SC Jamir over the issue and presented him a memorandum addressed to the President.
Leader of the opposition Narasingha Mishra alleged that the BJD legislators started shouting slogans before the singing of national anthem and thereby disrespecting it. He alleged that the Speaker is not doing his job impartially and acting like a party worker.
