Odisha Assembly stalled over demand for hike in MSP for paddy

Demanding an unanimous resolution for fixing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy at Rs 2800 per quintal, Opposition Congress and the BJP members in Odisha Assembly Tuesday stalled the business of the house for the whole day.
The Opposition disrupted the proceedings of the house right from the question hour, demanding an unanimous resolution recommending the Central government to hike the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of paddy to Rs 2800 per quintal. The notice for the resolution signed by all the members of the Congress and the BJP, was given by Leader of Opposition Narasingh Mishra yesterday.
As the Assembly gathered for the day to take up the question hour, the agitated Congress members trooped into the well of the house and shouted slogans in favour of the resolution.
The BJP members were seen raising the issue while standing on their seat. The house soon plunged into a chaotic situation and amidst din Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the house several times both during the pre-lunch and post lesion session and finally for the day.
The demand for expenditure relating to Panchayati Raj department was passed and adopted amidst din and the Speaker adjourned the house till March 24 next. The Speaker first adjourned the house first at 1033 hrs till 1230 hrs and again from 1234 hrs till 1255 hrs and finally from 1256 hrs till 1500 hrs for lunch. The house could not transact any business during the pre lunch session except laying of some papers.
