Odisha Based Students Body CISA Moots Idea Of Constitution of “Commission For Students”

The Council For International Student Alliance (CISA) , a Bhubaneswar based Students body Tuesday demanded for constitution of a “Commission for Students ” both in National and State level to ensure the rights of Students.

Addressing a press conference here Debi Prasad Nayak, General Secretary of CISA said that the draft provisions of the proposed Students Commission would be ready by April next.

He urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider setting up of the Students Commission for the greater interest of the Students Community.

A delegation of the Body is scheduled to meet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Union Human Resource Development Smriti Irani , Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and both the School and Higher Education Ministers of Odisha to submit memorandums along with the draft provisions in support of their deman by end of April next.

Nayak also said that they would also meet the leader of all the political parties to seek their support in their venture.

Quoting a Survey conducted by NCERT , he said, an estimated 25 crore students are reading in both in School and Higher education level in the country. Though students are facing various problems like drop outs, lack of scholarships, harassment in the educational institutions financially, in ordinate delay in publication of results , admission hassles , lack of teachers and infrastructure etc, there is no single window mechanism to give justice.

Stating that students can not afford to go to the Court of Law , he said the proposed Commission for Students is the only answer to take up and address the problems and safeguard their rights.
The proposed Students Commission should be headed by a Retired Judges of High Court and Supreme Court in respect of State and National Body respectively, he said.
