Odisha Hikes Salary Of Doctors Working In Remote Areas By 100 Per Cent

The Odisha government Tuesday decided to hike salary of the doctors working in the remotest areas of the state, particularly in backward KBK regions areas by 100 percent.

A decision to this effect has been taken by the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Bhubaneswar to ensure retention of medical officers in rural and remote areas, said Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati .

The doctors working in the remote and far-off tribal areas will also get upto 100 percent incentives with maximum ceiling of Rs.40,000 per month as incentives apart from their salary.

The incentives are determined on available objective parameters and ground realities such as backwardness of locality, tribal dominance, left-wing extremism, transport facilities and social infrastructure, chief secretary G.C. Pati told reporters after the Cabinet meet.

The State government had earlier devised incentives like higher salaries and preferential admission to post-graduate courses but medical officers did not stay in the rural areas, affecting health services there.
