Odisha to Implement 501 Mega Pipe Water Projects : Minister Badrinarayan Patra

As many as 501 mega pipe water projects would be implemented in Odisha to provide safe drinking water to the people, Rural Development Minister Badrinarayan Patra told the state Assembly Tuesday .

Replying to a question of Prakash Chandra Behera(Cong), the Minister said the projects would start in2015-16 at a cost of around Rs 7 to 8 crore after the DPRwas completed.

Patra said the first mega pipe water project would bemade in Nuapada district. The Minister denied the allegation that water-borne diseases like jaundice was spreading in rural areas as drinking water provided by the rural development department was not being disinfected properly.

Patra said the tubewells were being disinfected regularly by sodium, hypochloride before June and after August. The water projects of the river and streams are being disinfected through water purification plants and the groundwater projects by chlorinator and bleaching doser.

He said so far drinking water was being provided to people through 4,02.590 tube wells and 9,752 water pipe projects. Out of the 9,752 pipe water projects the water of the river and stream was being used in 1445 projects and ground water was used in rest 8307 projects.
