Odisha to set up ‘Raptani Bhawan’ in major cities in India and abroad to showcase export products

Setting a a target to export goods worth of Rs 21559 crore during 2016-17 against export of Rs 17.346 crore during 2015-16, the Odisha government today decided to set up “Raptani Bhawan” to showcase exportable products of the state in prominent cities of India and abroad.
Official sources here said, during 2015-16 near about Rs 10814 crore of metallurgical products, electronics and software products of Rs 2700 crore, marine products of Rs 1967 crore and engineering chemical and allied products worth Rs1295 crore were exported from Odisha.
Other products exported from the state included the mineral, agricultural, handloom, handicraft, textile, pharmaceutical, gems and jewelry and service providers.
The empowered committee on export chaired by Chief Secretary A P Padhi here Thursday decided to set up export promotion councils in different departments to promote exports in each category of production.
The committee directed Textile, Handloom and Handicraft, Industries, Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Resource Development, Steel and Mines, Health and Family Welfare, Electronics and IT departments to set up export promotion cells in their respective departments.
Official sources here today said the committee also decided to implement a new state assistance scheme for creation of export infrastructure and supply of raw material to exporters through OSIC.
The committee reviewed the progress of the export related projects like common processing center for marine product at Balaramgadi, establishment of testing laboratory facilities by MPEDA and Export Inspection Council, development seafood park at Deras, Reefer Container facility at Paradeep port, waiver of entry tax on silk products, direct air connectivity to different export destinations and adoption of organic farming and set time lines for completion of each phase of these projects.
