Odisha vigilance registers 464 criminal cases in 2015

The Odisha Vigilance department has registered 464 criminal cases and dismissed 22 Public servants after being convicted by the Vigilance court.
Vigilance department sources here said the 464 criminal cases included 75 Class-I officers, 97-Class-II officers and 379 class-III officers against 404 and 285 cases were filed during 2014 and 2013 respectively.
Sources said the number of cases filed in 2015 was 62.18 per cent more in comparison to 2013 and 14.85 per cent more than the cases filed in 2014.
During the period 288 persons including 264 Public Servants and 24 private persons were arrested for their involvement in vigilance cases against 211 in 2014 and 121 in 2013.
The department also executed 224 trap cases against 245 public servants and 13 private persons while demanding and accepting bribe against registration of 174 trap cases in 2014 and 112 cases in 2013 respectively.
The number of trap cases registered in 2015 was 28.73 per cent more than than in 2014 and 100 per cent more than the number of cases executed in 2013.
As many as 61 Disproportionate Assets cases were instituted against 61 public servants and 15 private persons during 2015 for acquisition of assets disproportionate their known sources of income as against detection of 53 and 61 cases during 2014 and 2013 respectively.
Sources said during 2015 criminal case investigation has been completed in 445 cases and charge sheet filed in 421 cases against 543 public servants and 168 private persons. In 24 cases final reports have been submitted. This is against disposal of 320 and 365 criminal cases during 2014 and 2013 respectively.
During 2015 as many as 185 Vigilance cases have been disposed of in the court of law out which 20 cases were abated due to death of accused persons/discharged/quashed and dropped. Out of the rest 165 cases 78 cases ended in conviction . As many as 30 cases in two Special Courts Cuttack and Bhubaneswar ended in conviction.
It said during 2015 out of the 14 cases disposed of by the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Special courts seven ended in conviction.
The Commercial wing of the Vigilance department detected 74 tax evasion cases during 2015 and collected Rs 1728.59 lakh against Rs 1364.33 lakh during 2014, the sources added.BM
