Oscars Nominations: After ‘Court’, Remaining 3 Films Also Fail To Make The Cut

After Marathi film Court, Indias entry in the Oscars for the best foreign film category, failing to make the cut in the initial shortlist last month, Indias other contenders in various categories – Jalam, RangiTaranga and Nachom-ia Kumpasar also did not figure in the list of nominations, announced last night.
After Court failing to make the cut, hopes were high from Jalam, RangiTaranga and Nachom-ia Kumpasar, which were competing in categories including Best Original Song and Best Original Score.However, these films did not figure in the list of nominees for the 88th Academy Awards, announced here last night by Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs, actor John Krasinski and filmmakers Guillermo del Toro and Ang Lee.
While Malayalam movie Jalam and RangiTaranga were vying to nominations in the Best Original Song category, both the films along with Konkani movie Nachom-ia Kumpasar were amongst 112 films that were contending for a spot in the Best Original Score category.
The film, however, lost the race for nominations to The Hateful Eight, Sicario, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Carol and Bridge of Spies a Steven Spielberg and Reliance Entertainment Film production.In the history of the Oscars awards, India has never won the prestigious award with just three films- Mehboob Khans Mother India, Mira Nair Salaam Bombay! and Ashutosh Gowarikars Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category in different years.
Though none of the Indian films could make it to the nominations list of the prestigious awards this year, Indian-American Pixar artist and director Sanjay Patels animated short film Sanjays Super Team managed to get nominated in the Best Animated Short Film category.
It is up against Bear Story, directed by Gabriel Osorio, World of Tomorrow, helmed by Don Hertzfeldt, Richard Williamss Prologue and We Cant Live Without Cosmos, directed by Konstantin Bronzit.The 88th Oscars will be held on February 28 at the Dolby Theatre in the US.
