Over 28000 people killed in accident in Odisha during last seven years

More than 28,000 people were killed and nearly 39,000 sustained grievous injuries in 68498 road accidents during the last seven years in Odisha,Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi told the state Assembly 25 Saturday.
Replying to a question of Tara Prasad Bahinipati ( Cong), the Minister said 28099 persons were killed and 38956 sustained grievous injuries in the state from 2010 to 2016. He said during the period property worth Rs 2797389869 was damaged in the accidents.
The Minister said while 9413 accidents occurred in 2010, in 2011 as many as 9338 accidents were reported. Similarly there were 9285 accidents in 2012, 9680 accidents in 2013, 9648 in 2014, 10,542 in 2015 and 10532 in 2016.
He said posts of four Traffic Inspector, eight Traffic Sub Inspector, 52 Assistant Traffic Sub Inspector and 20 traffic Constables were lying vacant in the transport department adding that steps are being taken to fill up these posts.
