PAAS Leaders Hardik, Chirag, Dinesh Bail Rejected In Sedition Cases

District sessions court Friday rejected the bail plea of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leaders Hardik Patel, Chirag Patel and Dinesh Bamaniya in the sedition cases against them.

Rejecting their bail application, the court observed that prima facie the charge of sedition against the PAAS leaders appeared to have substance.

The court upheld the prosecutions argument that the accused were likely to influence evidence against them if they were released on bail. The court rejected the plea of PAAS leaders to examine the evidence produced by the prosecution in support of the charge of sedition.

The prosecution had submitted the transcript of the phone calls made by the PAAS leaders as evidence of their active role in provoking PAAS supporters against the state government.

PAAS leaders have been charged with sedition under section 124 A of IPC. The Gujarat High Court had refused to quash the sedition charge though it had dropped the charges of creating enmity between groups.
