Phase-II odd-even scheme begins, Delhi Metro ready to tackle rush

Delhi Metro will be pressing into service the maximum number of trains during the second phase of Delhi Government’s odd-even car/vehicles driving scheme which commenced Friday.
The Delhi Government’s scheme aims of curbing rising pollution and reducing traffic congestion in the national capital.
The Delhi Metro will make additional 56 train trips and will use 200 trains daily to achieve 3,248 trips to facilitate the traffic demand on its network in view of the odd-even drive of Delhi Government to be observed from April 15 to 30.
”Delhi Metro will be pressing into service the maximum number of trains during this period keeping only the essential maintenance reserve,” a DMRC spokesperson said.
To handle the increased load on ticketing system, additional manpower of 80 ticket operators a day will be deployed.
There will be additional shifts of CISF/Guards/Customer Facilitation Agents at major stations to help and guide commuters.
Lines and stations will be monitored by control room and action to be taken to ensure that crowd is not built up at booking points, TVMs and security frisking points.
As many as 28 teams of officers will be deployed at major stations for monitoring the smooth traffic movement during the drive.
There will be four additional lines to the helpline number 155370 to attend the increased calls.
DMRC will run 15 additional feeder buses during the drive.
The routes are also reviewed, three new routes are introduced and rationalised to 6-12 km range so as to utilise the feeder buses to the maximum as first/last mile connectivity, the spokesperson added.
Under this scheme, odd-numbered cars will ply on roads on odd dates and on even dates only cars with number plates that end in an even number can ply.
However, the scheme will be applicable for a fortnight — up to April 30 — and the rule does not apply on Sundays. CNG-operated vehicles, women drivers, Chief Ministers of states and vehicles with students will remain exempted from the restrictions of the second phase of the scheme.
