PM Assures Mamata To Provide All Developmental Needs Of West Bengal People

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday assured West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee that his government will leave no stone unturned for the development of the state.

During his meeting with Ms Banerjee in New Delhi, Modi said, the government is fully committed to develop West Bengal and Kolkata. On the huge debt burden of the State, he said, the Centre and the States should have to collectively find a solution to it.

On the issue of releasing funds under MGNREGA to West Bengal, the Prime Minister assured her that the scheme is fully provided for.

Modi also pointed out that Centre has decided to give the state royalty on coal and other minerals which will provide benefit of 1,600 crore rupees to the state annually. Reiterating that he is a firm believer in Cooperative Federalism, the Prime Minister called for strengthening of the states to meet developmental needs of their people.

Talking to media outside Parliament after the meeting, Ms Banerjee said, she has requested Mr Modi to waive the State debt. Ms Banerjee said, she also discussed the disbursement of the amount related to MGNREGA and Integrated Child Development Scheme with the Prime Minister. It was Ms Banerjee’s first one-to-one meeting with Mr Modi after the new government took over at the Centre.
